Why wedding photographers aren’t getting enough credit
DALLAS — It’s a big week for wedding photographers, with more than a dozen new galleries popping up across the country.
Here’s what you need to know:There are new names to know, including the American Wedding Academy, the New York City-based company founded by Rachel and Kevin Dyson, who said they are working to expand to more cities.
The Dyson’s, who have been married for more than 40 years, have been traveling to cities across the United States for about five years to teach photographers what works and what doesn’t, including how to do weddings for families.
The couple, who are married in Colorado, said they didn’t expect to find a market in wedding photography, which is often considered the “easy” way to capture the most beautiful moments.
But, they said, they have been surprised by the amount of attention that their work has received.
The Dyson said that when they started the business, it was not a major business, but the business has grown significantly in the last year.
In addition to the Dysons, new names in the industry include the Avante Wedding Photographers, a Dallas-based wedding photography company, and Wedding Photographer Group, a New York-based studio specializing in wedding portraits.
New venues and events are starting to take off as the trend grows, and some of the major events of the year include the American Heart Association’s International Women’s Day, the NFL Super Bowl, and the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington.
A recent survey from the Association of Wedding Photogs found that wedding photographers have seen a decline in their pay.
A spokeswoman for the American Society of Wedding and Groom Photographers said the survey was taken as a snapshot of the industry.
The survey was conducted in June.
According to the survey, 75 percent of photographers said they make more than $100,000.
It noted that while the industry is growing, that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a sustainable business.
The report also noted that nearly one-third of respondents said they could no longer find work at their current jobs.
“It’s hard to make the kind of money you want to make if you’re not doing a lot of weddings,” said Lauren Cimino, 29, who lives in Dallas.
“You have to make some compromises, especially if you don’t have a great location.
I don’t want to do anything that would take my family off the table, especially now.
I’m trying to work with my friends to find places where we can be together for a while.”
For the Dyers, they decided to set up their own company to provide a professional service to couples, whether it be photography, videography, or even wedding photography.
The company is in the process of opening its first office in Dallas, and they are now working to add more locations in the Dallas area.
The American Wedding Photography Association says its members include wedding photographers in every state and the District of Columbia.
In addition to Texas, the association lists Florida, Louisiana, New Mexico, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, Utah and Wyoming.
