Which photographer is your favorite?
As the sun set on Asheville’s annual Wedding Photographer’s Association annual gathering, one photographer was left speechless as she gazed upon a group of people holding hands.
Sara Siegel, a member of Asheville’s wedding industry for more than 15 years, said she is not a huge fan of the tradition of marriage in many areas.
But, she said, the ceremony is so important to the people in the community, and it has been a part of their lives for generations.
“When we get married, that’s the first time we get to be together, so that’s really what the ceremony’s all about,” Siegel said.
Siegel said her first wedding was in 2003 and it is a tradition she still holds to this day.
Selling her own wedding photography business has allowed her to continue the tradition in many ways.
The Asheville Wedding Photographers Association is the umbrella organization for all wedding photographers in the region.
Siegel has worked as an apprentice for the association and said shes never been afraid to make her mark in the industry.
Siegels Photography Gallery in Asheville, which specializes in family portraits, includes more than 100 of Siegels clients.
Sikora Coyle, who owns the gallery, said Siegel was one of her first clients and was blown away by her professionalism.
“She was a professional, she did a wonderful job, and I know that in a lot of places that Ive been, there is a lot more of a push and pull, I think she was a great ambassador for the industry,” Coyle said.
She said she has no idea why Siegel became the face of the industry, but she is happy to see her name in the history books.
“I think it shows how well she did.
And that shows the passion and the desire for what she was doing,” Coyne said.
Siegel has been featured in local news outlets and has been the subject of an online documentary called Her Name is Sara.Siegel hopes to continue her legacy of weddings and family portraits in the future.
“We are very proud of what we did, I would love to continue to do this, but I think the future is going to be really bright with the technology,” she said.
