New York Wedding Photographer’s Wedding Photographer Gets $1.5 Million in Taxpayer Money
New York wedding photographer Rong Wang was given a $1 million tax rebate by New York Gov.
Andrew Cuomo after the state Department of Finance reported that he had used taxpayer money for personal expenses related to the wedding of his wife, the New York Post reported Friday.
Wang was awarded the $1,946,000 rebate after the New Jersey Division of Corporations found that he paid the amount in 2013 for expenses related “to the purchase and installation of a wedding photography equipment, the purchase of a professional camera, the provision of catering services, and the provision and installation and maintenance of a lighting system,” the Post reported.
The New York Department of Financial Services, the state’s division that manages the rebate program, said it received a request from Wang to participate in the program last month.
Wang’s $1 billion wedding in New York City cost $1-million.
The $1 in the state rebate program helps pay for wedding expenses, including food, lodging, transportation and any other expenses related directly to the celebration of the wedding, the Post said.
Wang and his wife had planned to celebrate their wedding at the Waldorf Astoria hotel on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.
“We’ve been planning our wedding since 2013,” Wang told the Post.
“My wife’s an artist and I’m a photographer.
We were planning to have a reception, but we didn’t get any invites because I couldn’t find a photographer.”
Wang said he had also planned a private ceremony in Manhattan on May 4, and was planning to fly in his bride to attend.
“I was just happy that I got the rebate,” Wang said.
“When I received the rebate, I felt happy.
I feel like it’s a great thing for the state.
I think it’s very important for New York to help the state because New York is so expensive and we need to save money.”
Wang told The Post that he hopes the rebate helps the state save money and help his business survive.
“The only people who will benefit from it are the people who make the wedding costs go down,” Wang added.
Wang said his business has been profitable since 2013, and he has had no other business expenses in the last four years.
“Our business has never been this good,” Wang noted.
“All my business is just about me.
I’m the only one who makes a living.”
Wang is a New York native and has lived in New Jersey since 2013.
He is married to Chinese photographer Wang Yi.
Wang also has two children, three grandchildren and a great-grandson.
